About this tool

Rewrite text so that each sentence starts with a capital letter and the rest is lowercase — the way ordinary prose is written. This is the quickest way to rescue a paragraph typed in ALL CAPS or pasted from a source with erratic capitalisation. Sentence boundaries are detected from full stops, question marks and exclamation marks.

Frequently asked questions

How does the tool know where a sentence ends?

It treats a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark followed by a space as the end of a sentence, and capitalises the next letter.

Will it capitalise names and proper nouns?

No. Sentence case only capitalises sentence openings, so proper nouns in the middle of a sentence stay lowercase and need a quick manual pass.

What is the difference from title case?

Sentence case capitalises one letter per sentence, suited to body text. Title case capitalises most words and is used for headlines.
